pseudoLudo's gameamonth 1
I never did these before so I'm aping off Adriel Wallick's Postmortem format for her gameaweek series.
Idea
The week started with me wanting to do a spot the difference game. That didn't pan out because i quickly realized i hate programming and like using simplified tools like construct instead. So after that micro crisis i was looking for some inspiration and came across the weeklygamejam theme of dying is rewarded and i guess inspiration struck?
What went well
Surprisingly lots of things went well. The scope of the project was small enough for me to finish it in about 12 hours.I wont call it clever or anything, but it does come close to what i wanted to say with this idea. Finally i think i figured out why i like using things like construct or click team fusion.I enjoy programming, but its a slower process for me to code an idea in my head into an OK prototype. But with simple tools i can do more of the fun parts of game development (for me of course) i.e think about design and how to communicate it.
What went wrong
working with audio caused a lot of hiccups when working in Ubuntu but it worked perfectly fine in windows which made no sense to me.Also i couldn't fix the bug where pressing space in Firefox scrolls the browser window down.
What I learned
Designing games is fun when i don't constantly hate myself for sucking at coding.
I still have a lot to learn.Construct is seemingly simple to use but i still don't know everything about it nor can i do everything i want to.I want to improve.I don't want to aim super high and disappoint myself,So ill just say : i want to do better next week.
